All grown up!

Luke and Sam have been going to secondary school now since September! The have taken so well to the whole transition from primary school, so much better than I thought they would. The go off to school by themselves now relishing every bit of their independence. They look so grown up and smart in their uniforms and are really thriving! Thank God for that! Onwards and upwards!

12th birthday!!

Luke and Sam turned 12 on the 8th of December this year! Oh how the years have flown! I still remember the day that they were born and it seems like it was only yesterday! We started celebrating the week before on the weekend. We had bought tickets to take them to out on a day trip to Dudley zoo. It was so freezing cold that we had to wrap up warm like we were Eskimos. However we had such fun and it was one of our favourite days out!

Their birthday was actually on the next Thursday. However as it was a day in the week, and they had to go to school, they asked if we could celebrate it instead on the weekend. So on the Saturday, we went out for a meal to World foods (all you can eat) buffet! Boy did they eat! They both confessed that it had been their best birthday yet!

So far so good!

Luke and Sam have been going to their new secondary school since last Wednesday and thank God they have absolutely loved it! They are so enthusiastic about it and they can’t get there quickly enough! They have made new friends and overall it has been a very enjoyable and positive experience for them.

They have mentioned some negative stuff like, “mummy why do some of the children swear? Also apparently they had the police in school today because some of the older children were caught smoking….lets just say not just cigarettes! Apart from these unfortunate incidents all else has been fine. I’m aware that this is part of their introduction to “The real world!”

Can’t believe summer is over!

Wow I feel as if that was the quickest summer I have ever experienced in my entire life! Luke and Sam seemed to really enjoy the summer holidays. We did quite a bit together as I wanted them to have a wonderful time with many memories, before they started secondary school.

We had two weeks in Spain at an apartment that we have been going to regularly for three years on the trot. The great thing is that they have made friends (from other families) there who they see every year. It was great as they spent hours out playing, often swimming, each day.

Once we got back, they have been going to football camp, one they go to most holidays. They both absolutely love playing football and the guys at the camp are absolutely marvelous.

One thing I am beginning to realise is how true it is that, It certainly takes a combination of people, mentors to bring children up! Its a job that is just too difficult for one person on their own, especially when everyone has a different role to play.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank every such person who has played their part in Luke and Sam’s life so far! God bless you for that. Please know that they are who they are because of you and your input.

Sats tests!!!

This week has been a very intense week for Luke and Sam. As they are in year six (their last year of primary school), It is a very important time for them. Thankfully today is their last day  of tests for the time being. Once they enter into Secondary school, ofcourse it will all start again. I believe that this is an introduction for them to the fact that you get out of life what you put in. I have been careful to explain to them, that their dad and I are very proud of them already, especially as we know they are trying their best. It is imperative that my boys experience a holistic approach to all aspects of their education and are therefore able to become healthy, wholesome, rounded young men.

Disco time!

Luke and Sam are definitely growing up! Would you believe last Thursday, they attended their last disco evening at their primary school! Goodness me, how time has flown! How can they be in year six now? It seems like just yesterday when it was their first day at the school as they joined reception!

Mums and dads, I encourage you to make the most of the times you have with your little ones, because before you know it they would have left home!!!

Secondary school!!!

My goodness how time certainly flies! I remember not so long ago when I was stressing out and panicking about the fact that Luke and Sam were preparing to leave nursery and go to primary school! Was that really seven years ago? Now here we are again and it is that time again! It is a new chapter, and era. This week my boys received offer letters for the Secondary school they have been offered. What an incredibly emotional week! I was so relieved that my boys have been offered one of the schools on our preference list. I was also so relieved that they didn’t split them up and give them offers for two different schools! The thing is, so many of my friends who are parents did not get the schools they wanted for their children! In fact some were offered schools that were not even on their list of preferences! How on earth does that even work? Talk about mixed feelings, On the one hand I felt so happy for my boys, but on the other hand I felt so gutted for my friends. I found myself laughing one minute and crying the next. Gosh i’m glad its the end of the week! I need to get off this emotional roller coaster!
